The story of Mak Phet is the collective journey of its mother and son founders — Mala and Grant.

We invite you to learn about our history, who we are today and where we go from here.

Growing up in Melbourne, my sister and I were always around our parents’ businesses. From causing mischief in mum’s restaurant to running around dad's hair salon after prep, entrepreneurship to us was simply life's norm.

It's hardly a surprise then we're both fiercely independent and headstrong to a fault. For me, that's manifested into countless run-ins with authority and many more business ideas that never seemed to get very far.

So when I jokingly suggested to mum that she sell her famous sauces (amongst my friends), I never anticipated we'd actually end up embarking on this crazy journey together..

The past 4 weeks have been some of the most chaotic, frustrating and draining of our lives. It's also been crazily fun, deeply rewarding and meaningful.

Despite a shared passion for good food (her cooking, me eating), our business visions differ.

Her goal is to share the truly unique flavours of Laos with the world.

Mine is to give back to my world: my mum.
